​COLOR GUARD is THE most amazing, eye-popping, energetic visual representation of the marching band. Through the masterfully exciting incorporation of dance, flag, rifle, and sabre (no, not real weapons - just ceremonial), the Color Guard literally “brings to life” the music you hear. When it all comes together (the music, the dance, the colorful additions) it can tell quite a story … like a Broadway Musical.
Students do not need any type of background in dance. Our staff of incredibly qualified teachers and performers literally teach a student everything they need to know from day one. Students also don’t need to have a background in music or band … all they need is a desire to be amazing at something and a teachable attitude - we’ll do the rest!

 Auditions will take place at the Kinder High School Auxiliary Gym 

All candidates are required to attend every day of the clinic in order to audition on Friday April 28th. Audition clinics are closed to the public to ensure the performers are in a comfortable and supportive environment.

To maintain anonymity, you will be issued an audition number on Monday, April 28th. You will keep this number with you until the conclusion of auditions.

The Color Guard Audition Will Include:
Across the floors evaluation
32-64 count Dance Phrase
32-64 count Flag Phrase


Audition Clinics 
Our clinics will be led by our current Kinder High School Color Guard Instructor. The first hour will be devoted to sitting and standing exercises, across the floors. Your movement phrase will include phrases from the exercises and across the floors. The rest of the time will be spent learning the flag audition routine. The focus of these clinics will be dance and flag.


Audition Day (May 2nd)
Prospective members will be grouped accordingly the day of auditions. Every new member will audition with returning members to ensure they have a safety net during auditions. There will be 2-3 judges. These judges are brought in solely to score participants and will not in any way be involved with the audition clinics.

Audition Evaluation
You will be evaluated on Dance, Flag, Performance Qualities, Accuracy and Precision on Choreography. Candidates will also be judged on Audition Day “uniform” (following instructions), and current and past academics will be taken into consideration.

If you are selected to be in the 2024 Kinder High School Color Guard, please be aware of the following rehearsal and performance schedules. There is a conflict sheet section in the packet you will turn in. All members are required to enroll in the Color guard class which is combined with Marching Band. 


Color Guard / Marching Band Class
Students enroll in this course to continue training and achieving choreographed
responsibilities. Students are required to enroll: no exceptions.

It is imperative that members attend every rehearsal. We will begin learning our 2024 marching show production “Adventures of Candy Land”  on July 22. Our focus will shift from technique and physical training to staging and choreographing. Marching Rehearsal Schedule Beginning the first Day of School August 11th during class time and after school on Tuesdays. More details will follow with schedules as the administration begins the new scheduling process with block schedule.
